Egg Cleanse. Sounds like a diet, but it is actually a spiritual ritual that has been performed for thousands of years and by many cultures around the world. An egg cleanse is used for clearing away heavy energy, psychic disturbances, or unwanted spiritual influences. In modern practices, the egg cleanse is attributed to Hoodoo practices, but the practice of using eggs in folk magic developed before Hoodoo became a central practice during the 1600s - 1800s of the American South.

There is little recorded history of the origin of the egg cleanse, but many cultures developed similar practices throughout time. The use of chicken eggs to perform the cleanse occurred with the introduction of chickens to other continents, originating in Southeast Asia.

The egg cleanse that we know today most likely developed from the Latin American traditions of folk magic or healing called limpia. The colonization of the America's from 1495 to the 1800's, mixed with the blending of cultures and slavery resulted in the formation of the folk magic practice of Hoodoo.

The written record of folk magic was strongest in the America's at the time, with the history of the practice being recorded and preserved. This gave rise to the belief the egg cleanses were a Hoodoo created practice.

Limpia, while well know in Mexican and Central American cultures, developed after the colonization by the Spanish. In Mediterranean Europe, scantu and malocchio cleansings were common, but the egg was combined with oil, not water. The origins of these cleansing rituals came from Greece and Rome, arriving there with the traders from the Silk Road from Asia.

Despite having differences in how or why the egg cleanse is performed, there are similar beliefs among the cultures that the egg serves as a spiritual sponge, absorbing energy to restore balance.
So, How Does the Egg Cleanse Work?

An egg is an undeveloped chicken or in modern times, a unfertilized egg. It contains within itself all the energy needed to create the life of a baby chicken with no input (other than heat from the hen) to develop.

An egg cleanse taps into the life force energy and uses it as a channel to draw out negativity from the person doing the cleanse. You are sweeping your aura and collecting the energy that no longer serves you and placing it into the egg and in return absorbing the positive life giving energy from the egg. The egg will pull emotions, attachments, curses, illness and fear from the body.
