The Truth About Being a Witch: It's Not Just About Magic

Am I a Real Witch?
Yes and no. This isn’t an easy question to answer, and it’s definitely not a simple one. A lot of people crave labels, but they often overlook what comes with those labels. A title is not just a name; it’s a responsibility. It’s a statement about who you are, both to yourself and to others. You can call yourself anything you wish, but remember, with that title come both benefits and consequences. Far too often, people focus on the benefits or the social stigma of a label and forget to consider the responsibilities it carries.
There’s a common misconception that magic can solve everything. That’s simply not true. Magic is a tool. It’s energy manipulation, and just like any tool, the user must learn how to wield it. Real witches understand this truth. It’s not about what you can do with magic, but how well you understand the flow of energy and how to interact with it.
Mundane vs. Magic
There are moments when magic is needed, and moments when it is not. For instance, imagine walking down the street and spotting a stick on the sidewalk in the shape of a “Y.” To someone who isn’t familiar with energy work, this could appear as a magical or spiritual sign. They might even attach a deep personal meaning to it. And while this is certainly possible—life is full of mysterious and unexplainable occurrences—often, it’s just a stick that happened to fall from a tree. There’s no magic at play; it’s simply a mundane event.
Too many people rush to label everything as magical or spiritual. They overlook the logical explanations that are right in front of them. Now, I'm not saying you should dismiss the mystical entirely—there’s a place for intuition and spiritual insight. But constantly jumping to the conclusion that everything is magic can lead you to live in a fantasy world. If you can’t discern the difference between what’s mundane and what’s magical, you might find yourself disconnected from your day-to-day reality. Magic should enhance life, not replace it.
Mundane Before Magical
Here’s the thing: using magic for everything doesn’t make you a witch. Everyone has the potential to learn magic, but not everyone is a witch. Magic exists in many forms, and people use it without even realizing it. In fact, a lot of people use magic or spiritual practices without actively trying to be “witches.” People who pray for blessings or ask for divine intervention are, in some ways, engaging in energy work—they just might not label it as magic.
In different cultures and religions, what we call “magic” might be referred to as a miracle, a blessing, or divine intervention. The term itself may change, but the concept of manipulating energy is universal. What truly makes someone a witch is knowing when, where, and why to use magic. It’s the conscious choice to connect with the universe, source energy, or a higher power to create change.
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, my answer is based on my own experiences, and that might not align with what other people believe. So, am I right? Maybe. But what I will say is that the answer is probably not what aspiring witches want to hear. Reality is this: Not everyone is a witch because they buy crystals or want to curse someone. Many people have a strong desire to influence their world or tap into something greater, but that doesn’t automatically make them a witch. A witch is someone who is dedicated to the craft, no matter their chosen path. A witch is someone who has made a conscious decision to take control of their own life and learn how to shape their future.
One of the beautiful things about the internet is that it opens the door to a variety of opinions. Everyone has their own beliefs and perspectives, shaped by their unique experiences. That means you’re going to encounter both positive and negative views on this topic. And while it’s easy to dismiss opinions that don’t resonate with you, remember that someone else’s truth doesn’t invalidate yours. We all see things through our own lens, and part of being human is learning to navigate the differences in our beliefs. You don’t need to be a witch to understand that.
