Breaking Karma Cycles: Lessons Beyond Cord-Cutting

When we choose to cut ties with someone, it must be done on multiple levels: physical, mental, emotional, and karmic. Physical separation alone is insufficient. The karmic lesson embedded in a relationship is not complete until it is understood, internalized, and acted upon. This is the essence of resolving karma and stepping into personal empowerment. Karma is a teacher, and its lessons guide us through life.

The Four Levels of Life Lessons

Every lesson we encounter in life can be distilled into four essential steps:

  1. Understanding the lesson we are meant to learn. This is self-realization: recognizing the underlying lesson the situation is trying to teach you.
  2. Acknowledging the changes we need to make within ourselves. Identifying the shifts required within yourself.
  3. Implementing those changes by rewriting old beliefs. Actively transforming outdated beliefs and replacing them with healthier ones.
  4. Upholding those changes as new beliefs and boundaries. Living out your new beliefs and boundaries as a testament to your growth.

These changes start internally. Cutting cords alone isn’t enough; if trauma and negative patterns remain unresolved, they will continue to influence your relationships. Without conscious effort, you may find yourself repeating the same cycles—allowing others to manipulate you or failing to set boundaries. The cycle will persist until you consciously choose to break it.

The Misconceptions Around Cord-Cutting in Witchcraft

In witchcraft, there is a misconception that a cord-cutting ritual alone can release someone from a harmful relationship. Many practitioners approach these rituals with desperation, hoping for a quick fix or relief from their pain yet lacking an understanding of energy, karma, and intention. This is equivalent to an alcoholic drinking a beer instead of a shot. When offered guidance to explore the deeper layers of their situation, they often resist, seeking a quick fix instead of enduring transformation.

This resistance stems from a misunderstanding of the principles behind magical and spiritual work. Effective magic requires:

  • Intention: A clear purpose and understanding of the desired outcome.
  • Intuition: Trusting the insights that arise within you.
  • Energy Work: Aligning your physical, emotional, and spiritual energies.
  • Shadow Work: Facing and integrating the hidden parts of yourself, including your patterns and beliefs.

The Role of Karma and Shadow Work

For any spell to work, there must be actionable effort on the physical plane. This means understanding the lessons at hand and beginning the inner transformation. A cord-cutting ritual can act as a symbolic release, but it must coincide with real progress in the first three steps of growth. Skipping these steps is a guaranteed failure.

Placing spiritual beliefs aside, psychology supports the role of shadow work. Therapy often involves processing emotions and reframing old situations to unlock healing. However, therapies that help individuals process emotions often stop at acknowledgment, failing to address and reshape underlying beliefs. True healing requires the individual to reflect, rewrite, and integrate new beliefs into their lives. Meditation, journaling, and mindfulness (being present) are starting points for the journey that lies ahead. Yet, many overlook these practices, seeking instant gratification over long-term benefits.

Mundane Before Magical

The phrase “Mundane before Witchcraft” underscores an essential truth: spiritual intervention should follow practical action. Before seeking spells or rituals, one must exhaust all mundane options to address the issue. This approach ensures that spiritual work aligns with genuine effort and readiness for change, grounding you in reality.

The First Step: Self-Realization

Ultimately, the first step in clearing karma and breaking free from negative cycles is self-realization. This is a deeply personal journey that cannot be forced. No matter how much guidance someone receives, they must reach a point of readiness to embrace their lessons. Until then, attempts to shortcut the process will only prolong their struggles.

The path to healing and transformation is not instantaneous. It requires patience, dedication, and a willingness to face oneself fully. When we take these steps, we honor the lessons karma brings and step into the power of conscious creation. Only then is magic capable of working.
